In an effort to make led tube lights compatible with the internal dimensions of most fixtures you will find that most led tube lights feature a t8 or 1 inch diameter. While t12 led lamps are 12 8 and t5 measures 5 8 inches. All these bulbs can be used vice versa so long as they share the same bi pin connections on the base the 2 pins at the end of the tube and have the right milliamp power supply requirements. T8 tubes are simply 1 inch in diameter versus the 1 5 inch diameter of t12 tubes.

The t12 is an older generation fluorescent bulb that generates light through electromagnetic induction which is considered less efficient method of creating light compared to that of newer electronic based circuits. The different sizes are not directly interchangeable so if you want to use another size then you will have to do a bit of handiwork. I ve heard different contradicting things about whether t8 and t12 are truly interchangeable. The other common lamps are the larger t8 eight eighths inch 1 and t12 twelve eights inch 1 tubes.

T8 lighting tends to be more expensive and have a shorter lifespan of around 15 000 hours. They can indeed be used in t12 fixtures. The previous bulb was 20 watt and i think it was 2 ft. However a t12 ballast will shorten the life a t8 lamp.
